Studio apartment in the old heart
of the beautiful city of Caen, capital of Calvados region of Lower
Normandy.
While much of Caen was destroyed in
WW2, a substantial part of the old city remains, including number
of outstanding medieval churches (cathedrals in all but name) and
of course the Chateau.
This five day break offers you accommodation
in a charming though tiny studio apartment, with self-catering kitchen
area, toilet and shower, on the second floor of a typical apartment
block in the heart of the old city, occupied by young French people,
many of them students. The building dates from the 18th century, as
is most of the surrounding area, with imposing city squares from 17th
and 18th centuries, and a wealth of cafes and brasseries and interesting
little shops. It is just one minute's walk from the superb cathedral,
the Abbey aux Hommes, which houses the tomb of William the Conqueror.
The modern city centre with its department stores, cinema, theatre,
etc. is ten minutes walk.
The accommodation sleeps two, and is
suitable for those who want a more authentic experience of French
city life than that offered by hotels.
